How Many Marks Do I Need to Reach a Target Percentage?

When some assessments are already finished, you can calculate the exact score you need in the remaining assessments to reach a target overall percentage.

The formula

First calculate the final maximum marks. Then calculate the total marks represented by your target. Finally subtract the marks you already have.

Required future marks = (target % ÷ 100 × final maximum marks) − current marks.

Example: target 75%

You have 65 marks out of 100 and another 100 marks remaining. The final maximum is 200. A 75% result requires 150 marks, so the remaining requirement is 150 − 65 = 85 marks.

Example: target 80%

You have 270 out of 400 and 200 marks remain. An 80% final result requires 480 out of 600. You therefore need 210 marks across the remaining 200 marks, so an 80% final result is not possible from those inputs.

Why this matters

A target calculator is useful because it turns an overall goal into a concrete future score. It can also show early when a target is mathematically impossible, which is better than planning around an impossible number.

Several remaining exams

If several assessments remain and they are all based on raw marks, add their maximum marks together before applying the formula. If they have different weights, use the official weighted structure instead.
