Attendance Percentage: Formula & Classes Needed
Attendance is calculated from classes attended and classes held. The same formula works in school, college and university settings, although each institution can have its own eligibility rules.
Attendance percentage formula
Attendance percentage = (classes attended ÷ total classes held) × 100.
For example, 42 attended out of 50 gives 42 ÷ 50 × 100 = 84%.
How many classes do I need for 75%?
Suppose you are currently below 75%. Each future class you attend adds one to both the attended count and the total count. The number needed therefore depends on your current numbers, not just the difference between your current percentage and 75%.
Why one absence can matter differently later
At the start of a term, one class may noticeably change the percentage. After many classes have been held, each new class has a smaller effect on the overall figure.
Can I use a generic calculator for official attendance?
Use it for planning. Your institution may exclude or separately count practicals, labs, approved leave, tutorials, online sessions or subject-specific requirements.
